Strawberry Banana Ice Cream

Ever since I was little I have eaten frozen banana's. My grandpa would stick pre-peeled over-ripe (or actually perfectly ripe, but brown spotted) bananas into the freezer for a day or two & viola: banana popsicles!! They were delicious & nutritious. No added sugars, syrups, coloring, etc. yet one of my favorite childhood desserts!

I have heard in the past that putting frozen bananas into a juicer can make ice cream, & I LOVE juicers & all, but they are sort of a pain to clean (not all I'm sure, but some are) so some clever creator came up with a machine just for frozen bananas! Its super easy to use & clean, & since turning frozen bananas into ice cream is exactly what it is made for, it's really good at it! The machine is called Yonanas! We got one for our wedding, & were a bit skeptical since we already had a juicer we could use, but it's great! The cleanup is a huge plus & the consistency of the ice cream really is better!

The machine comes with it's own little recipe book, and you can experiment with any frozen fruit or natural topping, the only necessary ingredient for almost every (if not every) recipe is two frozen bananas. Here is the super easy recipe that we had the other night!

Ingredients:
  • 3 frozen organic bananas (was actually too much for even the two of us)
  • 6 frozen organic strawberries
Directions:

Set up and plug in the Yonanas machine, placing a bowl under the spout

Place one frozen banana in the "shoot" and use the "masher" to push the banana through the blades. repeat. :] then add the strawberries, two at a time, using the "masher" to push them through. Then finish off with one more banana!

the end result:

delicious, creamy, fruity, perfectly healthy dessert! yyaaayyyy Yonanas! Of course, bananas are still pretty sugar-y (even though it's natural) so this is just a great once-in-a-while treat! :]
